Shepherd’s Bay Farm’s angora yarn is wonderfully soft, fabulous to knit, and awesome to wear. Unbelievably soft and fluffy, angora yarn develops a lovely halo during the knitting process. All of our angora yarn is produced by the rabbits here at Shepherd’s Bay and is sold in a variety of natural colors.

Shepherd’s Bay angora yarn is hand spun and is 100% angora fiber from our own animals. The yarn is spun into three-ply skeins and is sold by the ounce. A one ounce skein is approximately 70 yards of yarn.

Our angora yarn is hand spun in small batches which cannot be exactly duplicated, so please try to order as much yarn as you need for your project at one time. Each rabbit’s fiber varies slightly in color and texture from season to season and year to year. Since all of our angora yarn is hand spun by the resident shepherdess, availability is limited.

Angora rabbit’s wool is valued not only for its softness and light weight, but also for its thermal qualities. Angora is seven times warmer than sheep’s wool. The hollow structure of the fiber traps heat and wicks moisture away from the skin, keeping the wearer warm and dry.

Shepherd’s Bay angora rabbits’ wool is harvested (clipped with a scissors) three to four times each year. The rabbits are not harmed during the process. In fact, most of them thoroughly enjoy their grooming sessions.
